Project Summary

McLeod's Construction restored over 100,000 square feet of concrete surfaces across three areas of the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex — including the Rocket Garden, Heroes & Legends HAL Ramp, and the Vapor Trail entrance. Work ranged from standard pigmented sealer systems to a custom glow-in-the-dark stamped overlay designed in partnership with Georgia Tech, all backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Rocket Garden The Rocket Garden required the most comprehensive scope of work. McLeod's addressed the main visitor path by grinding off existing paint, etching, power washing, and applying three coats of pigmented sealer with a neon flake finish and non-slip aggregate. Inside each rocket circle, the team applied a hand-troweled texture overlay, stain, and sealer to create a textured cloud appearance with neon flake broadcast. Additional work included removing decommissioned cap lights and filling the voids with concrete, tearing out deteriorated rubber flooring in four areas and pouring new slabs, and fully replacing the expansion joint sealant throughout the path and circles.

Heroes & Legends (HAL Ramp) The HAL Ramp required surface restoration across the top, sides, support columns, and walkways, as well as the underside of the ramp. All areas received the same troweled overlay process — etch wash, power wash, base coat, hand-troweled texture coat, stain, and two coats of CSS sealer with non-slip aggregate in the final coat.

Vapor Trail The Vapor Trail was the most technically complex scope on the project, following a design developed by Georgia Tech. The 45,000 square foot surface was diamond-ground to remove existing coatings using HEPA-certified vacuums for dust control, then received two skim coats, a quarter-inch texture pave layer, and rubber-stamped glow-in-the-dark stones embedded directly into the surface. A water-based colorant was applied for finish color, followed by three coats of UV-stable sealer with non-slip aggregate in the final coat.

Warranty & Handoff All projects carry a 10-year workmanship warranty. Upon completion of each phase, McLeod's scheduled repair and maintenance training with the local facilities team to ensure the longevity of each surface.
